ワールドカップのグループリーグが終わって決勝トーナメントに進む16チームが揃いました。
今年はFIFAが各チームに4週間の準備期間を与えたおかげで前回大会と違い大きなサプライズもなく、順当な結果になっています。
でも今回の日本のワールドカップは終わりました。
実は正直言うと、ワールドカップのことを書くのは止めようと思ってたんです。書き出すと全試合の感想を書きたくなって時間が全部吹っ飛ぶからと、日本の惨敗が結構ショックだったからです。
ジーコが監督になってから関東開催の代表の試合は時間が許す限り、時には時間を作ってでもスタジアムに足を運びました。結構気合入れて応援していたつもりです。
ボクは日本人なので日本を応援しています。だから予想でも「グループリーグ突破余裕。優勝あるよ。」と平気な顔で言ってました。でも、これは一ファンとしての強がりです。「どうせダメだよ。」って思って応援するほどつまらないものはないですし。
とはいえ、悔しいものは悔しいです。
でも冷静に考えて見ると日本はプロリーグが発足してから13年、ワールドカップに初出場を果たしてから8年、予選を勝ち抜いたのが2回です。
日本人と体格が似ているお隣の韓国はワールドカップ5回目にして初勝利、自国開催を除くと今大会が52年目にして初勝利です。
アジア全体でいうと、今大会は1勝4分7敗で予選リーグを突破した国は0です。
そのアジアのクラブチャンピオンズリーグで日本のチームは二年連続で予選敗退しています。
これが現実だと思います。
一方で海外で活躍できる選手が増えてきたし、Jリーグの試合レベルも年々上がっているし、今大会のアジア予選は無敗で勝ちぬけてるわけで、徐々に徐々にレベルが上がっているのも確かです。
でも実績から言うと日本サッカー界は世界レベルにはないのが現実です。
ジーコはその過程を体を持って体験した人です。輝かしい経歴があるのに現役復帰してまでJリーグ発足前のアマチュア時代に日本に来て以来、ずっと日本のサッカーに貢献してくれた人です。
だから日本のプロ意識の低さも知ってるし、それが変わってきたことも知ってる人です。でも、多分過大評価しすぎたんでしょう。ジーコのサッカーは日本には早すぎたんだと思います。理解できない人からは非難を浴び、選手は具現することができず、相当イライラしたと思います。日本にはまだ教師が必要だったんだと思います。
これからは訳のわからんFIFAランキングや一部の無責任なマスコミなんかに踊らされずに、現実と足元をしっかり見つめて、選手も応援する側もいかにレベルを下げずに上げていけるかが、日本サッカー界の明暗を分けると思います。
まだ3回目の挑戦。これからです。
選手の皆さんお疲れ様。今回の経験をどんな形ででも日本サッカー界の糧にしてください。
