豪州を受け入れへ アジア・サッカー連盟 (スポーツナビ)（ＡＦＣ）は２３日の理事会で、オーストラリアがオセアニア連盟（ＯＦＣ）を離れ、ＡＦＣに加盟したいとの意向を条件付きで認めた。ただし、正式決定にはＯＦＣからの脱退手続きに加え、国際サッカー連盟（ＦＩＦＡ）の承認が必要となる。
ＡＦＣのモハメド・ビン・ハマム会長は「オーストラリアが加わることで、アジアのサッカーの水準やイメージが上がる」と説明。同会長はＡＦＣの正式メンバーになる時期は明言しなかったが、早くても来年以降と示唆した。
先週のサッカーマガジンだかサッカーダイジェストだかに小さく記事が載っていたので知ってはいたのですが、どうやら本格的に交渉が始まっているみたいですね。
まず、オーストラリア代表としては数多くの選手がプレミアシップで戦ってる(代表的なのはリバプールのキューウェルやミドルスブラのビドゥカ)ので決してレベルが低いわけではなく、実際ワールドカップのオセアニア地区予選では無敵状態なわけです。にもかかわらず、OFCの力が弱いため1枠をもらえることはなく、せっかくオセアニアで勝っても必ず南米かアジアとのプレイオフに出なければならないという立場にあります。
そこでAFCに加入すれば多くの予選を通じての結果となるわけで、地力があるオーストラリアとしてはワールドカップ出場が現実的になる計算なわけですね。個人的に、オーストラリアは実力的にはイラン、韓国、日本と遜色なく・・・というか対戦回数を重ねたら上に行くと思ってます。また、アジアカップなどにも参加できるのでより高いレベルで国際試合を経験することによって実力もあがるという計算なのかもしれません。
一方でオーストラリアは今年から国内リーグが変更されAリーグというのが始まるという事情もあるのかもしれません。日本もワールドカップ出場を重ねることによりJリーグ人気が徐々にですが伸びてきたという事実があるとおり、ワールドカップ出場で国威高揚することにより国内リーグへの人気へ反映させたいというのもあるのでしょう。ちなみに、かのリトバルスキーが今年からAリーグのシドニーの監督に就任しているそうです。彼曰く、「Jリーグ発足当時の盛り上がりがある。」とのことです。
で、日本にどのような影響を及ぼすかというと、ワールドカップ予選やアジアカップが非常に厳しい戦いになってきます。まぁ、それはそれでレベル向上という面からいうといいのですが、現状の日本はまだ発展途上なので試合数を多くこなすことが一番重要であると思うのです。つまり、ワールドカップ予選やアジアカップで敗退することにより失われる試合経験は結構痛いのではないかと思うのです。まぁ甘いと言われればそれまでですが。
またクラブレベルでも、もし世界クラブ選手権が定着して権威ある大会になった場合に今のJリーグのレベルだと本大会に出場するのも危ないわけで、そこにAリーグという新興勢力が入ってきたらひとたまりもないような気がします。それによって失われる経済的損失やクラブレベルの世界経験値の損失は結構大きいと思います。
一方でOFC自体も問題を抱えることになると思います。前例としてかつてカザフスタンがAFCからUEFAへ鞍替えしたことがあるので今回も実現しないとは言えないのですが、もしオーストラリアがOFCを脱退するとOFC自体の価値が皆無になってしまい、コンフェデや世界クラブ選手権などで完全にお荷物になってしまいそうな気がします。
そんな中、さらに気になる記事を見つけました。
ＮＺもＡＦＣ加盟を希望 サッカー協会意向表明(スポーツナビ)ニュージーランド・サッカー協会は１５日、オーストラリアと同様にオセアニア連盟（ＯＦＣ）を脱退し、アジア連盟（ＡＦＣ）に加入する意向があることを表明した。
オーストラリアに対しＯＦＣに残るよう希望するとしていた当初の見解を改めた上で、２００７年までにＡＦＣ加入を目指す方針。 オーストラリアは代表強化やマーケティング面での利点が大きいとして、転籍の承認を求める文書を国際サッカー連盟（ＦＩＦＡ）に既に提出している。
個人的には前述のとおり日本にとってはかなり厳しい状態になるとは思いますが、まぁよくよく考えるとそんな甘いことも言ってられないだろうということで、この際OFCを解散してAFCに統合するのがよいかと思いますがいかがでしょ？
